HVAC Repair in Santa Clara County, CA

The short answer

SwiftAir repairs air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces throughout Santa Clara County, from Palo Alto and Mountain View to Los Gatos and Lexington Hills. We diagnose the problem, explain your options, and help you weigh repair against replacement with current Air District rules and incentives in mind.

SwiftAir Conditioning Repair works from our San Jose base across Santa Clara County, from the flatlands of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara to the hillside neighborhoods of Saratoga, Los Gatos and Los Altos Hills. When your air conditioner, heat pump or furnace stops working the way it should, we find the actual problem and explain it in plain terms. You get clear options before any work begins.

How the South Bay Climate Affects Your System

The Santa Clara Valley has a Mediterranean climate, with dry summers and mild, damp winters. Inland and southern parts of the valley run noticeably hotter in summer than communities closer to the Bay.

In the warmer parts of the county, air conditioners run for long stretches during heat waves. That kind of use exposes weak capacitors, dirty coils and low refrigerant. Heating loads are lighter in winter. Even so, furnaces and heat pumps that sat idle for months can develop ignition, sensor or airflow problems on the first cold night.

Repairs We Handle

We work on central air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and the ductwork and controls that connect them. Common calls include:

  • AC running but not cooling, or cooling unevenly between rooms
  • Outdoor unit humming, clicking or not starting
  • Frozen evaporator coils and water leaking near the indoor unit
  • Furnace ignition failures, short cycling or tripped limit switches
  • Heat pumps stuck in one mode or struggling to keep up
  • Thermostat, wiring and control board faults
  • Weak airflow from clogged filters, failed blower motors or leaky ducts

Repair or Replace? What the Air District Rules Mean

The Bay Area Air District's appliance rules do not require you to replace working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced. If your furnace can be repaired reliably, repairing it is a reasonable choice.

It still helps to plan ahead. Under Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 on must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that points homeowners toward heat pumps when they replace a furnace after that date.

Rule 9-6 set a 2027 zero-NOx date for small water heaters. The Air District Board is considering amendments in November 2026 that could delay that date, so check the current rule before you plan a water heater replacement.

Heat Pump Incentives

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It is not available for installations after that date.

Local programs may still help. Check BayREN and your local clean energy provider for current heat pump and electrification incentives. Amounts and availability change with each funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before including it in any quote.

What to expect

How a visit goes

  1. Clear answers before work begins

We show you what's wrong, explain your options, and let you decide. Work starts after you approve it.

  2. Repair first when it's reasonable

Not every problem calls for new equipment. If a repair will keep your system running well, we'll recommend that instead of a replacement.

  3. Equipment that fits your home

When you do need a new system, we size it for your home, your ductwork, and how hot your part of the valley gets. We don't simply match the old unit's label.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you repair both air conditioners and furnaces in Santa Clara County?

Yes. We repair central air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces, along with the thermostats, controls and ductwork that connect them.

Do I have to replace my gas furnace because of the new Air District rules?

No. The Bay Area Air District rules do not require replacing working equipment. They apply only when an existing furnace or water heater fails or is replaced.

What changes for furnaces in 2029?

Under Rule 9-4, natural gas furnaces manufactured from 2029 on must meet a zero-NOx emission standard. In practice, that steers homeowners toward heat pumps when they replace a furnace after that date.

Can I still get the federal tax credit for a heat pump?

No. The federal 25C credit covered qualifying heat pumps placed in service before December 31, 2025. It is not available for installations after that date.

Are there local incentives for heat pumps?

There may be. Check BayREN and your local clean energy provider. Amounts and availability change with each funding cycle, so we confirm the current offer before quoting it.

Why does my AC struggle more than my neighbor's across town?

Inland and southern parts of the Santa Clara Valley run noticeably hotter in summer than areas near the Bay. Systems in those spots work harder, and worn parts tend to show up sooner.
